Cabinet addresses issue of non-accredited universities

The Cabinet decided on Monday to set up a special panel to tackle the question of non-accredited universities and faculties. Minister of Education and Higher Education Moudhi Abdel Aziz Al-Humoud, at the weekly regular session of the Cabinet, briefed the ministers about the problem of unrecognized schools, academies and universities, and the steps that have been taken to prevent the Kuwaiti students from being enrolled in such teaching institutions. Dr Al-Humoud presented a report to the executives about the issue in light of visits that had been paid by national academic delegations to a number of countries to examine closely these establishments and scrutinize their educational levels to determine whether they meet international standards. The Cabinet decided to form a commission grouping representatives of the ministries of foreign affairs, educational, social and health affairs, as well as officials from the Civil Services Commission, Kuwait University, members of the private universities board and other relevant authorities, to address the issue and present a comprehensive report, dealing with all dimensions of the question.

The panel is also tasked to present proposals and mechanisms to resolve this problem to spare the Kuwaiti students some possible negative effects.
The proposed solutions will be submitted to the Cabinet “for sake of finding a final solution to this issue.”

The ministers, during today’s session, discussed participation of His Highness the Prime Minister, Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, in the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly, namely his meetings with several world leaders, said Health Minister and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Hilal Al-Sayer in a statement following the session that was held at Seif Palace, under chairmanship of the Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

The Cabinet praised the statement that had been addressed by HH the prime minister, on behalf of HH the Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, to the UN General Assembly session, affirming Kuwait’s keenness on maintaining its unwavering policy of continuous support for nations of the world and cooperation with other states for resolving global problems.
The government expressed appreciation and pride for the fruitful efforts that had been exerted by the prime minister within quarters of the United Nations, namely his effective and positive role for activating the interaction with friendly and brotherly nations for service of the common interests and support for the peace and development of the globe for service of mankind.

At start of the session, the Cabinet was briefed about a message that had been addressed to HH the Amir from the King of Bahrain, Hamad Bin Issa Al-Khalifa, as part of the continuous consultations between the leaderships of the two brotherly countries on various issues.

The ministers were also briefed about a message that had been received by His Highness from the Lebanese President, Michel Suleiman, dealing with the bilateral ties and means of boosting mutual cooperation between the two brotherly countries in various sectors.
They also examined a message to His Highness from the President of Benin, where the latter praised outcome of the visit that had been paid by the prime minister to this country, in addition to a message from the former French president, Jaques Chirac, to His Highness, dealing with cultural dialogue among nations.
The ministers discussed various political issues in light of reports related to the current developments at the Arab and international levels
