Experience with Kuwait Airways

Recently, I have traveled to India in Kuwait Airways. The experience was very bad and if not for direct flight, I would try to avoid travelling in it.

On my onward journey to India, I have made the online check-in and as directed in the website, went to the airport around 2 hours ahead of the flight. I was pretty happy to see a check-in counter for the passengers who did the online check-in. However, the officer at the counter asked me to stand in the normal queue. I insisted that online check-in is done and it is only the baggage and boarding pass he need to do. He just said go to other queue and I saw may other passengers were asked to go to the normal queue.

It makes no sense to have the online check-in done for Kuwait Airways as the staff are not cooperative. I believe they require bit of a training on how to treat the passengers who did the online check-in.

May be they act differently as part of their strike, though I traveled after the strike has been called off.

2-Day Expo in Kuwait to highlight Indian healthcare services

India Medical Tourism Destination Kuwait 2011 on Nov 2-3 Traveling abroad for serious medical treatments is an arduous task that demands well-thought out planning. For those who can afford it, the cost of a procedure such as heart or liver transplant and hip replacement is not the top priority as much as a guaranteed successful outcome.

In the wealthy Gulf countries, especially, reputable doctors are sought out for these super-specialties as quality health care infrastructure is not readily available to date. Thousands of Arab patients flock to medical destinations such as the US, UK, and Germany as they are known for best-quality professionals and top-notch medical technologies.

Kuwait’s new traffic law to cut licenses to expats

Kuwait is to introduce a new traffic law next year in a bid to reduce violations and accidents, a senior official has said. The new law includes doubling the prison term for motorists committing serious offenses and reducing the number of driving licenses given to expatriates, Kuwaiti daily Arab Times reported.

Shaikh Ahmad Al Hmoud, the interior minister, said that the amendments to the law were aimed at confronting the violators and not increasing fines.

The presence of traffic patrols will be boosted on roads and at traffic lights to monitor the traffic movement and arrest the violators, particularly those who jump red lights, he said.

Kuwait has one of the highest traffic accidents rate in the region and officials have been pushing for a stricter application of the law to deter violations.

Steve Jobs passes away

Steve Jobs, the Apple co-founder who resigned from the company in the mid-1980s and returned a decade later to make Apple one of the most successful technology companies in the world, has died.

Jobs had been struggling with his health for the last several years. In 2004 he underwent surgery to treat a rare form of pancreatic cancer. He returned to work soon after, but in early 2009 took six months off to treat what he called a "hormone imbalance" that made him appear gaunt and pale. During that leave he underwent a liver transplant. Early this year he took another, indefinite leave of absence to "focus on my health," as he put it, and on Aug. 24 he announced his resignation as CEO, with Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook taking over and Jobs elected board chairman, a position he held until his death.

FAT Tax for foods. Should we have it?

Denmark has introduced the world’s first ‘fat tax’ on food increasing the price of products which contain high levels of saturated fat. The move, which will see shoppers pay more for chips, pizza, meat and milk, is aimed at tackling obesity in the Scandinavian country where just over ten per cent of adults are clinically obese.

Obesity rates are considerably higher in Kuwait and ranked as one among the top ten countries. Arabtimes reported earlier that 80% of Kuwait population is obese.
