Gulf’s Largest Tug O’ War Championship on 16 October

The fifth national Tug O’ War championship for SanCelia Ever Rolling Gold Cup will take place on 16 October in Indian Central School ground, Abbasiya. It is in the auspices of THANIMA (The Human And Nostalgic Interaction of Malayalees Abroad) the national championship being conducted. It is combined with ONATHANIMA 2009, United Onam carnival of Kuwait Malayalees. Mr. Ajai Malhotra, Ambassador of India to Kuwait, will be the chief guest in the program.

More than 20 teams from all around the country will take part in the championship. Contests will begin at 4.30 PM. The runners up of the contest will be presented with Blue Line Ever Rolling Trophy and the team which comes third will get Jiju Memorial Ever Rolling Trophy. The winning teams will also receive prize money. The team members will be awarded with individual medals & certificates.
Like in the previous years, inter-school girls’ Tug O’ War contest also will take place as part of the national championship.

The championship is conducted as per the rules of Tug O’ War International Federation (TWIF). National Championship is the largest Tug O’ War Fest in the Gulf region with the participation of around 300 athletes.

Colourful cultural procession, March-past of the athletes, Maveli Ezhunnallathu, Folk Songs, Musical Fusion, Smriti Pooja (Homage to departed people of eminence) etc. will be the highlights of ONATHANIMA this year - Organisers informed in a press release.
