Kuwait ranks 31 in UNDP’s 182

Kuwait ranks 31st in the annual United Nations Human Development Index (HDI) released Monday, with Norway topping the list.

Kuwait is the 2nd country in the region and tops the GCC list followed by Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman and Saudi Arabia. comparing to the previous year list, Kuwait has moved two slots up from the 33rd position.

According to the report Kuwait’s life expectancy at birth is 77.5 years. Ninety-four percent of Kuwait’s adults are literates, while the combined gross enrollment ratio is 72.6 percent. Kuwait’s per capital GDP is $ 45,592, which is the eighth best figure in the world.

There are 182 counties in the list. The list is compiled based on criteria such as life expectancy, literecy, school enrollments and GDP per capital

Norway tops the list followed by Australia and Iceland while Niger and Afghanistan is on the bottom.

The study also includes gender-related development index (GDI). A ratio of Kuwait’s GDI and Human Development Index showed that 130 countries have a better ratio than Kuwait’s.

Life expectancy at birth of females in Kuwait stood at 105 percent that of males, while there are only 97.9 percent literate adult females for every literate adult male in the state.
