Google pays homage to Mahatma Gandhi - India’s Father of the Nation
India has celebrated the 140th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi on Friday, October 2nd; Mahatma Gandhi is the father of the new India
Google honored Mahatma Gandhi the late political and spiritual leader of India marking what would be his 140th birthday by replacing the ‘G’ in its ever-changing logo with an image of the peace hero.
Google’s Gandhi logo takes readers to various Google search engine links and websites about Gandhi, who was assassinated on January 30, 1948.
According to the AFP, “Google frequently changes the colorful logo on its famously sparse home page to mark holidays, anniversaries or significant events. It added flying saucers last month to pay homage to British science fiction writer H.G. Wells, author of the 1898 classic, ‘The War of the Worlds.’”
Born Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, India’s independence hero made quite an impact on the movement. Gandhi resisted tyranny using a powerful tool of mass non-violence, leading to India’s independence. It also sparked global civil rights movements and freedom changes.
Gandhi is officially honored in India as the Father of the Nation on on this day, October 2nd, the national Indian holiday of Gandhi Jayanti is also the worldwide holiday of International Day of Non-Violence.
