Colorful Ahmedi - Pictures

Last week we have been to Ahmadi to see the lights around the Ahmadi area. The place was beautifully lit up.

These lights were set up as part of the Oil Companies 75th Anniversary celebrations.

I think these decorations will be there for another week or two

Teaching toddlers

Toddlers, is an age of great inquisitiveness and very strong likes and dislikes. They need to be entertained well enough or are likely to throw tantrums once in a while. They learn a lot during this age. So better than getting them in front of the television, the best thing is to engage them in various activties. I do give my toddler 1/2 hour to 1hr a day to watch programs like Barney which I believe teaches them and reinforces values.

We can teach them small things little by little, its better not to wait until sending them to Kindergarten. Learning is real fun for them at this age.
We can teach them

  • ABC's : I used to sing to her the ABC's everyday and by the age of 2 she could sing it on he own. We also have a chart in our home, where she could touch and show me the alphabets

Shopping in my experience

I normally feel comfortable shopping at one shopping mall because i know where the things are kept and i can complete the shopping fast... There are so many malls here in Kuwait.. when i go to the malls for shopping.. I feel like am in "Wonderland" :)
Being an expatriate here in Kuwait, I need to find the mall which caters to the products I use
For example, Indians in Kuwait need to find the mall where you get all the Indian Products you use.

The first time i went to a mall, it took around 3-4 hours to complete the shopping... I didn't know where the things were... although i had a list, I didn't know which product to buy or not.. and besides the kids get exhausted and start throwing tantrums...
The next month I went to the same mall...n now I'm really comfortable with the place...
Do the monthly shopping at one place, if you have a really busy schedule... It saves a lot of time and it would be easy on the kids

Ragi Preparation for Infants

For all Indian expats.. away from the family and who has an infant mite be wondering.. How am i going to introduce solids for my infant??

Ragi / Red Millet / Nachni made into a porridge, is probably one of the best to start the solid diet for infants. I have done it for both my kids..

There are 2 options
1)You can buy powdered Ragi (Go to Preparing the Ragi Porridge)
2)You can buy Ragi and then powder it
You can get these from any Indian store here in Kuwait.

Steps for powdering Ragi (I learnt it from my mother-in-law)

1)Wash the Ragi properly and remove any particles in it(stones or dirt)
2)Drain it.. so that most of the water goes.
3)Spread it on a clean paper and keep it in sunlight if possible and let it dry
4)Once its completely dried, you can take a little quantity and put it in a mixer/grinder and powder it. You can powder and keep it in a air tight container and you can take it little by little and make the porridge
